thanks and God bless too! :)
  • Gerard · 1 year ago
This list was great until number 28. Can't politheists, agnostics and atheists be happy too?
  • glennong · 1 year ago
perhaps the God written there can symbolize a person's own god. whether they're politheist, agnostic or atheist, they have their own god. for example, as for the atheist, their god is the god of nothing.

but of course, i posted this with the words applicable to me. i am a Christian, that's why I believe in God. i don't mean to step on other religions of course.
  • Andrew · 1 year ago
The god of nothing? Your ignorant....
  • respect · 1 year ago
no you are ignorant, sense you believe in a god doesn't he/she tell you to respect all humans and animals if not then i suggest you convert.
  • Rikki · 1 year ago
I also don't believe in a god, but everyone replying saying he is ignorant isn't helping anything. You are no better than a christian or jew or whatever preaching to athiests that there is a god. You just have to be aware of others cultures and respect them for their own...and believe what YOU want. There are millions of people in this world...which means there are millions of different views about a god in this world. If you try to battle millions of peoples views....you're going to be one very unhappy person.
  • Jmo · 1 year ago
Exactly, the point of this post is to help create a better life for yourself, not continue to judgmental and unhappy. But, what we will always have is unhappy people on the internet, putting down the people trying to help. It makes them feel better about themselves, to bring someone down to their level.
  • Always · 1 year ago
First of all, excellent post. I agree with most points you said.

Secondly, as an atheist myself, I can understand why Andrew called you ignorant. We don't follow religions so we believe in "nothing"? It seems disrespectful (even though I know you weren't intending it to be).

It is as if someone said to you, "Jesus was manipulative and violent". Would you agree that this person had no knowledge of what they were talking about?

I have no qualms with you or what you said though, so well done on a great post and good luck!
  • Atheist Jesus · 1 year ago
no there are billions of people...
  • Newman · 1 year ago
    it's YOU'RE ignorant, not YOUR....
  • LaurenJane · 1 year ago
    Huzzah for grammar!
  • drazil · 8 months ago
I think you are being picky (and ignorant)...that being the case, it's you're as in you are, not "your". See, does that really matter???
  • lmeyera · 1 year ago
No. I will pray for you though.
  • nathan · 1 year ago
i agree i don't have a religen but i plan to follow most of these steps
  • kati · 1 year ago
religion is not needed to have faith faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of the things not seen. dig deeper than manmade religion do some soul searching
  • Bethany · 1 year ago
Yes. Its all in the interpretation of the list. Who says you have to take everything at face value? Interpret that and take it in a positive manner which works for you. Maybe your replacement of a higher power is like...the power of nature? I don't know, but you must have SOME beliefs right? Make it work for you. Everyone's different, so everyone needs their own prescription.

    God vs No God

    Rule 21
    Agree to disagree
  • Steven · 1 year ago
28 is bogus, there is no god. Most of the others actually work though.
  • glennong · 1 year ago
Let's just respect each other's belief. It's the way to go.
  • lmeyera · 1 year ago
    I will pray for you.

Hmm. Well, since you seem to know everything, go ahead and tell me how many galaxies there are in the universe, mr. authority.

  • lol · 1 year ago
God heals everything so fuck it all and dont do shit, he will come and fix it up for us when we screw up. so dont try.
  • Bethany · 1 year ago
Thats not what it says. That is a negative warped interpretation. I'm guessing that is how most of your life must be though. Good luck dealing with that mind of yours.
  • Matias · 1 year ago
Prayer only works for those who believe in it. But hey, if you do believe in it, go ahead!
The most important thing people should be aware of nowadays is their lack of sleep. Really. Sleeping is healthy, because it keeps us better prepared for the day both physically and mentally.
  • Jmo · 1 year ago
The sermon at my mother's church yesterday was about the way we pray. Not only do you have to believe in it, but the point was brought up that in order for prayer to work it needs to be selfless. I am not a Christian, but this was a Christian church. I am spiritual however. I did find this to be good advice.
  • PapaB · 1 year ago
This spoke directly to my soul, and it came at a time I really needed it!! Thank you for a truly inspirational post!! I really NEEDED this today!!
  • Richard · 1 year ago
in reference to #28; Where knowledge and reason end, religion begins. God heals nothing but as a whole. these are words to live by and Glenn sounds like a wonderful soul.

    Peace

  • Matt · 1 year ago
People are getting too caught up on the literal meaning of the word "god".. to me, 'god' is a word encompassing everything. Existence itself, if you will. If you believe in only your own perceptions, your conscience is your god.
  • Shannon · 1 year ago
Also people aren't taking it as a cumulative list. Because before the number 28 that everyone is getting caught up on it reads:

    5. Live with the 3 E’s — Energy, Enthusiasm, and Empathy. (keyword Empathy)
    20. Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
    and
    21. You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
  • Drew · 1 year ago
This is BY FAR the best post of this entire thread! Maybe every should take themselves a little less serious, open their minds a little, search their hearts for a little compassion and if you can't say something nice close your mouth and step away from the keyboard.
  • Thunderwunder1 · 1 year ago
Having just finished reading The King James Holy Bible I can tell you GOD is one scary, angry and demanding 'entity' and WOW! what an efficient killer!

I'm totally confused 'cos religion is SO repressive unless you get drunk on joy and then you're just a addict and not your real self.
I'm not sure what to believe .....HELP!

  • Mark Joy · 1 year ago
Let me say that very often things that must be done to insure future stability are not beautiful or joyful, and that getting rid of them would be, well, a disaster. Thus an intelligent and rational person is forced to conclude that some of the suggestions in the list do not necessarily promote a happy stable life. I will add though that many of the entries in the list are quite valuable.
  • D · 1 year ago
This list would be cool without religious motives.
  • Miguel · 1 year ago

Excellent list! Thank you! Timing is perfect as I am re-doing my "daily" list!
  • Todiad · 1 year ago
all the comments are good EXCEPT for "God heals everything" you should change it to.

    "Time heals everything"
Also pray everyday? come on.. praying never helps
  • glennong · 1 year ago
It does help of course if you believe in it. If you don't, please just respect the belief of others.
  • twatchy · 1 year ago
I loved the list especially #14. Personally I'm not religious but everyone has there own thing. Some pray, some meditate & others drink themselves into commas, what ever gets you by, so lay off the god issue.
  • not religious · 1 year ago
yeah i just stated the meditating thing a few days ago and i feel good alredy

Thank you for this list! There must be a God for me to find this in my need of inspiration. God Bless You!

Yeah that's totally undeniable proof right there. I can not touch your inane logic.
  • deck_ape69 · 1 year ago
Thats stupid, why would anyone want to live like that when everyone you deal with is not feeling the vibes. The way to live is an eye for an eye, its rough out there, sure at home thats fine but out in the real world you better be a little hard are your going to cry a lot.
Be wise and never give up, because there's always a better way to skin a cat. Eat whats at hand and what you can afford and be thankful you can see all the lies, don't be blind open them dam eyes
  • kati · 1 year ago
i think you need a hug. what happened to do unto others as you would have done to you? how about turn the other cheek? love one another and forgive one another ? you create the vibes you want to be surrounded by . someone must have hurt you for you to feel this way i bhope you can forgive and let go of bitterness someday before its too late

While I was reading all these truisms, I also happened to glance over at what you said some hours ago. I wish you all the best in your internship and remember to read 29 again However good or bad a situation is, it will change!
  • timisword · 1 year ago
Deck-Ape, you could certainly use some of the wisdom you recommend to others. A person can be "hard," and still adhere to all of these ideas. In fact, only the hardest and bravest can live in balance between mirth and misery. The ability to recognize lies and angst doesn't mean having the same lies and angst in your heart. Newton's Third Law, for every action, an equal and opposite reaction, is not only for physical purposes.

Actually, I'd add something to the list that reflects that.

Appreciate the sadness, angst, and fear in the world. Possess and embrace them to fully understand and appreciate all joy, large and small.

Just remember that God only helps those who help themselves and take the first steps. Realize that you CAN achieve everything IF you set your mind to it in a Positive Confident way, Know that you receive double of what you give, so better only give good positive things.
Live can be beautifull if you let it... just don't put your demands too high... life came free to you, you know!
Remember that when you were conceived, you were the best of the whole lot... you still are!

wonderful and many other adjectives. :- ) lovely.
  • SB2323 · 1 year ago
Great post. I enjoyed it. I believe/try to do many of them, and the others make a lot of sense.

I feel sorry for the atheists who become so indignant at the mention of God, even on a Christian's personal blog. It is sad to go through life with such a prickly attitude. :-(
  • Co3 · 1 year ago
They probably stumbled here. I know I did. Something about reading that believing in a god improves one's life. The opposite was true for me- but that is irrelevant.

Blame lies on all sides of the dice of religion. For every indignant Atheist there is also an indignant Christian. The reason I say this is because though this may be a Christian's personal blog, the list appeared to apply to 'anyone and everyone'.

I do agree that if you don't believe in a God you should just simply ignore it and move to the other very good points.
  • Lini · 1 year ago

I think this is an awesome list! I am printing it out and taping it beside my desk so that I can see it and remember it. And more than that, I'm writing these out to post at work; we needed something to brighten up our office, and this works!
Great job that you're willing to include your faith too. God is awesome. He truly does heal everything, and I can see His presence daily.
Thank you so much for doing this! God bless (and may God bless those who don't believe in Him as well)!
  • john · 1 year ago
    a Very refreshing list.
  • Deborah · 1 year ago
all these cliches dont actually make for a better life
  • Deborah · 1 year ago
and another thing...God does not heal everything and to think that is to live a wasteful and fated life, lacking personal will and choice. Newsflash, anyone ever hear of darwinism? There is no god and if you live your life depending on "him" (which, by the way, who says its a man? thats just plain stupid) you will find, as most of you have, that you, as a person, are unfulfilled
  • kati · 1 year ago
little unknown fact about Darwin... he asked God to forgive him while on his deathbed... hmmm .... makes you wonder? I find it extremely joyous to seek peace in God and if we live by His example... love one another and forgive one another... is that all bad? i know that i cannot take personal credit for the peace in my life
  • joanie · 1 year ago
oh crap, that old Darwin lie.
    http://www.answersingenesis.org/creation/v18/i1...

Told by an fanatic christian woman whos not been at his deathbead. Better believe his Daughter Henrietta who was there.

    but believing fanatics...
  • dutchkd · 1 year ago
Deborah, you are the one that sounds unfulfilled and very unhappy, the fact that you have to put someone else down for their beliefs but think you have the right to express yours proves that. We have just as much right to believe in God as you have to deny him.
  • Karl · 1 year ago
Very good guide lines to live by, and more important, a lot of wisdom too.
  • gfd · 1 year ago
half of this list was total crap.. Should have been 20 tips for a better life.. But the other half was very good though..
  • Joel · 1 year ago
yeah for real this article should be 30 tips.. I found a few crappy ones..

When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement, ‘My purpose is to __________ today.’

    Lame..

Make time to practice meditation, and prayer. They provide us with daily fuel for our busy lives.

    Lame..

Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a college kid with a maxed out charge card.

    Lame..

    Forgive everyone for everything.

    Lame..

    Remember God heals everything.

lame.. keep your jesus crap to yourself

    Do the right thing!

    Lame..

Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements: I am thankful for _______. Today I accomplished ____.

    Lame..

Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.

    lame..
  • KeepQuiet · 1 year ago
    You are lame and crap!
  • kati · 1 year ago
Im sorry you feel that way. Not all words of wisdom are for everyone. If you came away from this site with 30 good quotes then thats great. just remember , not everyone shares the same beliefs , which is what makes a free country so grand. peace to all.
  • dutchkd · 1 year ago
Joel obviously has issues in his/her life. Believers have every right to express their selves, why do all the non believers always feel that they can express how much they do not believe in the Lord who gave them life, but are so threatened when believers try to express how much the Lord means to them, we all have the same freedom of speech, if you don't like the comments skip them, they were not all written for you.

  • APA168 · 1 year ago
Excellent list! I have it bookmarked at printed for future reference. Thanks!

RE #28, I'm an atheist and I understand what he means. But then again, I am quaker too. Let's just respect him and each other Ok?
  • chbe1007 · 1 year ago
Great list.... thanks for keeping your comments up beat by not feeding into the negative words.

What I have never understood is how someone can be so critical of someone else's beliefs in regards to religion. If you are not hurting yourself or someone else- your beliefs are your rights- especially if you are fortunate enough to live in a place that allows you to have your own beliefs.

So sorry your list was twisted by some..... have joy knowing is was appreciated by more and insulted by less!

PS- I stumbled and will bookmark to see what other words you share.

Take the time to get to know someone who you don't really care for at work or in life... you will find that everyone has a story to tell and you will find some sort to of common ground to make a bond, remember there is too much going on in life to waste time on hatred .
  • kati · 1 year ago
i love this site i have it bookmarked thankyou
  • deb · 1 year ago
It's a great list. I don't agree with them all, but then, that isn't the point. Take what speaks to you from the list, try it out, if it makes a positive difference, keep it up. If you don't believe in God, that's ok but why try to bring this guy down for doing his part to make a difference?
Putting positive energy out there makes a difference. All you doubters, do some research!
Check out theses experiments on water---interesting stuff. http://www.life-enthusiast.com/twilight/researc...
Thanks for the list, your effort is appreciated!
  • dave · 1 year ago
That was going well, a nice list of positive thoughts, and then you had to thank god for everything.
  • dave · 1 year ago
ok. you're right! i read a few more replies, and you're right. if we don't believe in god, let's not pee in anyone else's cheerios who does.

it's a great list, which took time and effort to create, and i thank you for bringing a smile to my day. i did "stumbleupon" this site, and i didn't realise it was a religious site. so my apologies.

    forgive everyone for everythign!
  • negativexcreep · 1 year ago
This was really inspiring and wonderful, until you brought God into the mix.

YOU have the ability to heal yourself, adding God to this list is a contradiction. This list is about how to better yourself and improve you life, so why are you now saying God will make it all better?

Rely on yourself and your ability to create a better path, not some delusion created to pacify the co-dependent masses that feel better when they imagine that they are "not alone". You are what makes your life, and if you cant face that then turn to "God". If it makes you feel better to think you have otherworldly support then so be it. But don't tell people that relying on a fictional source is going to help them when their world comes crashing down.
  • Ariaan · 1 year ago
Hmm, the sceptisism of a humanist... :) As like me, I wouldn't waste my precious time. Isn't it just nice for someone to compile this list and do good. In my case I replace the word God for myself. Though I don't pray for anything, I like to think I still can have hope. Meditation suits me better.

no 26. Forgive everyone for everything ;)

    Excellent list Glenn!

Perhaps one more tip for a better life could be, "Don't be offended". Just because there is mention of God, you don't have to become offended and discount the meaning of what is said. god is just a word, which means something different to every single person. You can easily take the meaning of the word and adapt it to what it means to you rather than be offended.

"GOoD heals everything" "Tao heals everything" "Allah heals everything" "Source heals everything"

You WILL have a better life if you try to understand the meaning of others, rather than being offended by the words they use.

Of course, we all came from perfect health, and have used our free will to choose otherwise. I believe that is what Glenn means, we came in as perfect and if you stay in alignment with the power (God, Jesus, Allah, Yahweh, source, the divine, ect...) that brought you here, your body will remain healthy, or regain health. If you choose to be in conflict, with yourself and others, this is not the way of GOD and you will lose health.
  • Macarena · 1 year ago
Muy buena la lista. El punto no es creer o no en Dios, sino rescatar lo bueno que se nos ofrece y descartar lo malo. Si de 40 puntos te sientes identificado con 28, eres una persona muy afortunada ¿Verdad?

Just got through reading the comments people have sent--you seem to be a very empathetic being; keep doing what you are doing; it has GOD all through it and I DO believe---semantics can get in the way of expressing my word for HIM/HER--but your soul is kind; do not listen to unkindess....

Kind, but all the theism kinda ruined it for me. Otherwise? Top Shelf.

If God heals everything, why does God hate amputees??
  • Athiea · 1 year ago
Ah, definitely an excellent list. Most of these are ones that I've made into daily resolutions before. As for all this hullabaloo about the religious aspect... I think regardless of your beliefs, some form of spirituality is important to one's well being. It seems a lonely sort of world if you choose to believe that you are absolutely alone.

If you are an Athiest, instead of praying to a God just pray to yourself: Ask yourself for the strength to achieve your goals. It's good simply to deeply think about what you really want. And for "God heals everything"... I guess just go for "things get better."

I'm Athiest and I still try to make time to pray, even if just into the void. It's a healthy thing, prayer.

Great stuff! Much of it very, very helpful. All of it sincere.

I recommend you moderate your comments. Weed out rancor.
  • glennong · 1 year ago
Hi there! Thanks for the compliment. :) I think I don't like moderating my comments as long as they do not give out foul comments, as in swearing and the likes. I want my readers to have freedom of speech. hehe.

This is a great list, Why because many people, including myself look at these sort of mood enhancers very critically and will find fault in anyone of them. This one covers a lot of range without the feeling of having some info crammed down our throats. Does that make sense? I am in the very beginning of trying to get centered again

Wow--you've summed up all of my blog writing from the last three months in one single post. I definitely think that cutting out the clutter and increasing the smiles is a magic formula, or at the very least, a running start at happiness. Very well done!

I was just reading some other comments. This was a great list and I appreciated
    reading it
I like 19 cause there's plenty of clowns to hate
But like we say in Brooklyn you can't kill them all
meaning I'm only going to ruin my day if I let a person ruin
my day.So I just try to move on and ignore Knuckleheads:)
    Best wished to you

Alas, It is meant to be... cockroaches must crawl out from their dark places to leave their carbon footprint. ALL are made by God and ALL have their place in the scheme of life. Somewhere along the line, the secular world has contaminated these tortured souls either by choice of circumstance. And even under a circumstance, a choice with be made. Some will spew the vitriol within and attempt to contaminate all they encounter particularly. anything of God’s Nature. For them, in their brief moment of encountering a believing Christian, it is too much for their shallow nature to stand the Light of God’s Truth.

I didn’t park my intellect when I became a Christian at age 30, And after 40 years of being a Christian (Christ Follower), I can truly say I have peace in my heart and joy on my lips. I have an attitude of gratitude for all the things He has done for me and is continuing to do for me..

Christians are grown from the inside out. glennong has expressed his inner self and allowed some of the Lord’s insights flow through him for which I truly appreciate. Very refreshing. Jeanette

I think that if you don't capitalize the actual word "god", it would be better understood. I know it's a proper noun but what really is god, its different for all. I'm a little buzzed...

But seriously it's a great list.
    Thanks!

  • Drew · 1 year ago
I very thoughtful and enlightened list. Thank you for posting it, as there is some good advice in this list for everyone. I like the idea that the only thing in this list that people think has a religious tone to it is the one that actually mentioned God specially. However, many of the ones people agreed with, also can find their origins in that which they appear to hold in contempt, the word of God.

Just remember E+R=O (Event + My Response = Outcome), the only part of this that you can control is your response to any particular event. So don't let people get you down, they really aren't worth the time...

Awesome. I love this *Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a college kid with a maxed out charge card*. Oh and this "However good or bad a situation is, it will change."

I lost my son almost 10 years ago. At 19 I never thought I would be able to pick up and move on. I have. My life is far from perfect but I am so blessed. At the time I thought I would always grieve him the way I did the day he died. I don't. They 10 yr mark is coming. Ironically, I feel blessed that things happened the way they did. Life is so much better now.

Anyway. This is a great post. ; )

This is a wonderful and interesting list. Thanks for sharing it. Many of the items are common sense, but it helps to have them pointed out.

I also found the comments interesting. I've nevefelt the urge to take the time to leave a negative or mean response; I merely move on. I'm also amazed by the number of people who just don't get it- glean out whatever applies to you and go your way. So many people just want to dwell on things they don't like instead of those they do. If #28 is not your cup of tea, so what, there are 39 other items that might be. Why not focus on those?

Anyway, I'm really glad I stumbled upon this site; it gave me some great things to think about.

#28 seems like some pretty dangerous advice in fairness. I mean if someone actually believes that they might end up going to a Church instead of a Hospital if they got in an accident. Although I suppose that would be the gene pool righting itself anyway ;)

Funnily enough most of the other points tend to become clearer once you leave God behind. Once you stop throwing all your problems on some fantastical sky spirit and start looking after yourself you'll find most of the prayers God would never answer before suddenly start answering themselves.

Wonderful list!! And I suggest adding a number 41 for many of the people who have commented on here about number 28 and so forth not having perfect enough terminology to satisfy their minds:

    41. Quit disecting the world so much and just enjoy it!
  • glennong · 1 year ago
a #41 is indeed a nice one to add! hehe. Thanks Jekka!

Some fantastic tips, thanks. I do a lot of them already, and certainly feel the benefits, but as soon as I can get my business to improve a little more, would like to take time to manage them all, I hope I get there!
